Australian Paramedical College (APC), Australia’s leading provider of pre-hospital healthcare training, is proud to announce the launch of the HLT37215 Certificate III in Pathology Collection, a nationally recognised course now open for enrolment.

This new program provides students with the essential skills and knowledge required to begin a career as a pathology collector (phlebotomist), a critical frontline role in healthcare. Graduates will be job-ready to work in medical clinics, hospitals, pathology labs, and collection centres, collecting, preparing and handling pathology specimens safely and professionally.

“We’re excited to offer a course that opens the door to another rewarding healthcare career without requiring a university degree,” said Stephen Booth, spokesperson for APC. “Pathology collectors are essential to the Australian healthcare system, and this course gives students the skills they need to contribute meaningfully from day one.”

The Certificate III in Pathology Collection is designed to be completed in six to 12 months, depending on study load, and includes a blend of online learning, practical workshops, and clinical placement.

Students will develop core competencies in blood and specimen collection (including venepuncture), infection control and hygiene practices, patient communication and confidentiality, as well as work health and safety in clinical settings.

Unlike many traditional education providers, APC’s flexible learning model allows students to study online from anywhere in Australia while still receiving hands-on experience through in-person workshops and placement partnerships across APC’s NSW, VIC, and QLD campus locations. This flexible design means students can balance study with existing work or family commitments, making the course more accessible to people from all walks of life.

This latest course expands APC’s growing suite of nationally recognised qualifications, which also includes training for Patient Transport Officers, Emergency Medical Technicians, and aspiring Paramedics. The addition of the Certificate III in Pathology Collection strengthens APC’s commitment to providing real-world, accessible entry points into the healthcare sector.

The launch of this course comes at a time when pathology services in Australia process over 500 million tests annually, supporting more than 70% of all medical diagnoses. With increasing demand for skilled professionals in this space, APC’s new program offers a timely and practical pathway into an essential healthcare role.

“Pathology collectors are the bridge between the patient and diagnosis,” added Booth. “This course is about giving everyday Australians a chance to join the healthcare workforce with purpose, confidence, and practical skill.”

In addition to the new pathology course, Australian Paramedical College also delivers qualifications such as the HLT31120 Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport, the HLT41120 Certificate IV in Health Care, and the HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care.

A big focus across APC’s courses is on producing graduates who can step into the workforce with confidence, competence, and a strong understanding of the realities of healthcare. Each program combines online theory with in-person training and clinical placement, ensuring students graduate with both practical experience and job-ready skills.

Importantly, the learning journey is designed to be engaging, supportive, and structured in a way that builds both confidence and capability. Whether pursuing a career in patient transport, emergency response, or pathology collection, APC provides multiple pathways into meaningful and rewarding roles within the healthcare sector.
